See the river run through

Jetlag alkaa helpottaa. Oulussa paistaa aurinko, joskin lämpötila on 25 astetta vähemmän kuin maailman toisella puolella, jossa olin vielä tiistaina. Ilma on kehittyvän maan suurkaupunkia puhtaampaa katupölystä huolimatta.

Suomessa on loppujen lopuksi moni asia todella hyvin.

Palataan aiheeseen, sitä ennen lentokoneesta napatun kevätflunssan parantelua!

Above Sumatra

Soon the jet lag is just a memory. Northern Finland is bathing in the sun, although the temperature outside is a whole 25 degrees (Celcius) colder than on the other side of the World, where I still was last Tuesday. The air is both fresher and cleaner here than in a third world metropolis.

We spent a week in Jakarta, Indonesia, visiting family. We were there for the first time ever, since Asia in whole isn't our priority when choosing where to travel to. Thus it was the first time for such a long time sitting on a plane, and unfortunately also the first time for a delayed first flight of three when heading back home, leaving us with a wreck of a flying schedule. 40 hours later we finally got back to Oulu. Could've done with less.

In West Java some kind of monsoon season made the heat actually bearable, with the Sun hiding in the clouds for most of the day. The country itself raised a lot of contradictory thoughts in my mind, as did the travelling there itself (not the cause of the travel, but the flying bit). Still trying to gather and analyze those thoughts, they'll most probably end up on the blog as well with pictures. The photo above says it all:  a Boeing 787 flying over Sumatra rainforests, polluting air as it goes above the unique nature so crucial to this planet. Even from the over 10km distance huge patches of chopped down rainforests were very visible.

Still happy that I got to visit Indonesia, since there's a big chance I'll never go back there again. And as always, travelling widens your knowledge like nothing else. Things in Finland are pretty good in many aspects.

Anyhoo, I'll get back to this, as soon as I get this friggin' spring cold caught from the plane out of my system!
