Hamburg 2 - Wilhelmsburg

Koska viimekesäisen matkamme päätarkoitus oli tutustua paikalliseen arkkitehtuuriin, kiersimme Hafencityn lisäksi mm. Wilhemsburgin uusia asuinalueita. Kuten nimikin kertoo, Hampurin keskustan eteläpuolella oleva Wilhelmsburg on kuin ilmetty Brooklynin Williamsburg - urbaani, nuorekas, moderni ja boheemi alue, jossa kulttuuri ja rentous ovat avainsanoja. Suurin osa asukkaista on nuoria, ja hintataso on kohtuullinen. Arkkitehtuuri on vanhojen satama- ja tehdasrakennusten ohella ihastuttavan minimalistista ja aidoilla materiaaleilla höystettyä. Baarit ja kahvilat skippasimme, ja keskityimme ihmisten asumuksiin, päästen yhteen kolmikerroksiseen perheasuntoon sisällekin.

Huomionarvoinen on myös Photosynthese-talo, jonka julkisivut tuottavat energiaa levän fotosynteesin avulla. Huh.

Because our las summer trip to Hamburg was all about local architecture, we explored for example Wilhelmsburg's new dwelling areas, in addition to Hafencity. The name already tells you all I guess, Wilhemsburg on the other side of the river is just like Brooklyn's Williamsburg, on the other side of the river as well. The are is urban, modern, youthful and bohemian, with culture and a relax lifestyle being essential. Most of the occupants are young and prices are moderate. Besides old port and factory buildings, the architecture is quite minimalistic with a bunch of authentic materials being used. We skipped all the bars and cafés and focused on the apartment blocks - and even got inside one three-storey family apartment. You might also want to check out the Photosynthese house, which provides its own energy by the use of algae-powered facades.
